Talk to Surevisible in Slack

The question about a brand usually gets asked in a channel. The Slack app answers it there, with the chart, instead of sending somebody off to a dashboard.

Not shipped yet. Planned for in build now.

The problem

Somebody asks how a client did last month in a channel. The person who can answer opens a dashboard, screenshots it, pastes it back, and by the following month nobody can say what date range the picture covered.

What we mean

The Slack app runs the same query the dashboard would, in the thread where the question was asked. The answer arrives with its chart and with the query behind it, so the reply is checkable rather than a screenshot.

In-thread

answers, with the chart and the query

How it works

Start to answer

  1. 01

    Install it once

Connect the app to the workspace and pick which channels it should listen in.

  2. 02

    Ask in the channel

Mention it and type the question the way you would ask a colleague.

  3. 03

    It answers in the thread

The number, the chart, and the query it ran, all in the thread rather than a DM nobody else can see.

  4. 04

    Keep it if it matters

Pin the chart to a dashboard from the reply, or export the thread as a report.

Before and after

What actually changes

The Monday question

Before

Somebody asks in #clients, the one person with a login answers three hours later with a screenshot.

After

Anyone in the channel asks, and the answer is there in a minute.

The screenshot with no context

Before

A chart pasted into a thread six weeks ago, and nobody can say which brand or window it covered.

After

The reply states the brand, the window and the query it ran.

Where the question is

No context switch to get an answer.

  • Answers in the thread, not a DM
  • Per-channel scoping
  • Charts rendered into the reply

The same numbers

One semantic layer behind every surface.

  • Identical definitions to the dashboard
  • The query shown alongside the answer
  • Nothing it can ask that the schema has not defined

Scoped access

A channel does not inherit your whole workspace.

  • Read-only throughout
  • Limited to the brands you allow
  • Every call in the audit trail

Why a thread rather than a bot DM

The value of answering in the channel is that everybody who saw the question also sees the answer. A DM turns one person into the interface for the data again, which is the problem this was meant to remove.

In short

The question gets answered where it was asked, by whoever asked it.
